Arch Linux LiNomad edition

Arch Linux® is a lightweight and flexible Linux® distribution that tries to Keep It Simple. It targets users who want to learn how to build their own system rather than end users.

LiNomad® (Linux Nomad / “Un Linux qui Pétille”) is a pre-configured Arch Linux edition featuring:

  • Pre-configured desktop (see specific edition below);
  • WirePlumper (PipeWire session manager) with Jack support;
  • Simple-Scan with driverless scanning and printing setup;
  • Papers document viewer;
  • The minimalist NetSurf Web Browser.
  • A script to integrate additional applications (such as Firefox, Chromium, LibreOffice, OnlyOffice, GIMP, etc.) distributed in the AppImage format.

XFCE desktop specific features

It also features few optional softwares from Arch User Repository:

LiNomad is not an other distribution

The main objective of LiNomad is to offer scripts to automate the installation and configuration of an Arch Linux system.

Unlike CachyOS,EndeavourOS, Garuda Linux or Manjaro, once installed, LiNomad gives way to a plain Arch Linux distribution.

Get LiNomad Arch Linux

This system is distributed free of charge, but without any guarantee of any kind.

  1. Get the latest system image.

  2. Flash it on an USB media, replacing /dev/sdx with the appropriate USB device - see dmesg output if unsure; the device must have a minimum size of 8 GB; be aware that all data on the device will be permanently destroyed:

sudo zstd -d arch-*.img.zst -o /dev/sdx
  1. It is recommended to resize the likely too small LiveData partition (especially for adding AppImage files) and optionally create an additional exFAT partition to share data between systems. Use a partition editor like GParted for these operations.

  2. Boot the live system:

    • disable the secure-boot from UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) setup,
    • boot from the USB media or DVD drive (UEFI mode).
